This book is written with very deep insightful views for CMP. I am very happy to share CMP experiments/journey with these authors in the book. This book has a little different view compared to the previous CMP books. However, you will definately enjoy it. Thanks.

Psychology plain and simple

This book has everything a student could need for the study of abnormal psychology. It's organised, readable, and accurate. The case studies really bring it all together in "real world" examples. The only caution I would give is that the 10th addition has some major changes from the 9th, so make sure, if you are using it for a class, that it's the edition the rest of your class is using.

Better than Expected

I purchased this book for the purpose of providing support in the writing of a credit management policy for my company. Though the guidelines were not specific to meet all of the company expectations, there were several items mentioned in the credit review section that shed light on items not thought of or discussed previously. It has proven to be a great reference material for not only credit management but also for the implementation of new policies in my department. If you work in A/R, this is a must have for your work library.

Good explanation of basic concepts

I am an electrical engineer learning for the first time about electrical machinery. This book has proven very valuable to me in explaining basic concepts of electromagnetics as applied to this subject. At first I was thrown off by the large size of the book and the advanced material it contains but I am finding that the author really does take the time to explain things carefully.

From electric machine basics to high performance modeling and control

This book starts from the very basics, the fundamentals of DC and AC machine physics. Then, the models of the machine are developed, without skipping steps, and advanced phenomena are explained with easy to follow derivations. The applied control techniques are rigorously developed with the practical aspects covered (especially in the starred sections). Advanced control techniques are included along with block diagrams that can be directly constructed in Mathwork's Simulink(r) simulation platform.
I had the pleasure of taking this course from the author directly during my graduate studies, but I do believe the book to be a very good independent read as well.

About the Author

Rajeev S. Koodli, PhD, received his doctorate from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. He is Senior Principal Scientist at Nokia Research Center in California. He is author of numerous papers and multiple mobility protocol specifications, Chair of Internet Research Task Force's Mobility Optimizations group, and a recipient of the Nokia Research Center USA Inventor Award.

Charles E. Perkins is a Nokia Fellow at Nokia Research Center in California. He was a principal designer of Mobile IP and Mobile IPv6, and has specified many related mobility management protocols. He has also published numerous articles and papers as well as two previous books on mobile networking.

He is also an adjunct professor of applied pharmaceutical sciences at the University of Rhode Island. Dr. Ette was a pioneer pharmacometric staff in the Office of Clinical Pharmacology and Biopharmaceutics at the Food and Drug Administration, where he developed the popular reference Guidance for Industry: Population Pharmacokinetics. From 1989 –2001, he was an FDA Consultant. In recognition of his contributions to clinical pharmacy and clinical pharmacology, Dr. Ette is the recipient of The American College of Clinical Pharmacy's Russell Miller Award. He is also the 2006 recipient of The American College of Clinical Pharmacy's Therapeutic Frontiers Lecture Award. Dr. Ette is chairman of the pharmacometrics panel of The Annals of Pharmacotherapy editorial board.

PAUL J. WILLIAMS, PharmD, is a Fellow of the American Colleges of Clinical Pharmacy and Clinical Pharmacology and Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Pharmacy Practice at the Thomas J. Long School of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. About the Author
Jae K. Lee, Ph.D., is a professor of biostatistics and epidemiology in the Department of Health Evaluation Sciences at the University of Virginia School of Medicine, where he designed and teaches a course on Statistical Bioinformatics in Medicine. He earned his doctorate in statistical genetics from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. He was previously a research scientist in the Laboratory of Molecular Pharmacology, National Cancer Institute. Among his current research interests is the integration of statistical and genomic information for the analysis of microarray data.

A Disappointment

We evaluated this book as a textbook for a graduate level statistics class. It surveys a large number of concepts in techniques, including the requisite chapter on concepts in probability and distributions--each chapter is written by a different author. Other topics include quality control, supervised classification, unsupervised analysis, experimental designs, network analysis, and techniques for GWAS studies. Overall, the depth is extremely shallow for most topics and includes just a few equations or concepts. Although it does include snippets of R code, the included code is mostly one-liners without much in the way of explanation or exposition. Also mostly absent are worked examples with real biological data, which would have been welcome. There are much better textbooks out there both for practical techniques using R (the O'reilly books the R Cookbook and R in a nutshell come to mind) and for biostatistics (too many to mention).

Conclusion: Might be suitable for an introductory undergraduate course at a community college, but not for serious practitioners.
