Schooled in mathematics, statistics, and computer programming, Floyd Upperman entered the semiconductor industry out of college in 1987. His computer programming talent quickly earned him the nickname "Whiz Kid." Read this book

In my 6 year career as a full-time day trader (first daytrading stocks of course, then on to futures in 2001), I have purchased and read a lot of books, taken courses, and used many brokers/data providers and different trading software, looking to perfect my trading technique and to make me more money. I currently daytrade Dow futures and have been pleased with that but now I want to begin to trade commodities more long term and ease out of daytrading. (Although I may be addicted to it. :)) I tried on my own to use Commitments of Traders data, and then I subscribed to a data service that provides charts of the COT and seasonal data, but I wasn't able to use the charts confidently - so I subscribed to upperman.com and read all of the instructional material on the site - most of which appears in his book - and purchased and used his instructional tapes.

In the last month, before reading his book, I closed my most profitable commodities trades ever with the help of upperman.com.

No surprise then that I definitely recommend his book as a short cut to learning about how to use COT data, and as an introduction to the excellent tools on his website.

The value of Upperman and his book definitely is not his writing style (which he readily and in good humor admits) and I am sure that his editors had to work hard to get the book into print. But - and this is big - the excellent charts, tapes, instructional manuals, and the discussion group on his website are helping me make more money, and for me the book is a very handy addition to the set of tools.

I also plan to read the Larry Williams book that is mentioned in another review of Upperman's book. Why not? One thing about trading, there is always something more that I need to learn and there is always another knowledgable person ready and anxious to help me to learn it.

Like too many others (DeMark, Summa, etc.), all he does is tell you that he has a magic set of indicators---but you need to purchase them on his website.

Save your money; I sent it back.

About the Author
Lawrence C. Bank, PE, PhD, is Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. He has over twenty years of experience in research, consulting, and education in FRP composites for construction. He is the founding editor and former editor in chief of the ASCE Journal of Composites for Construction and a Fellow of the ASCE and the International Institute for FRP in Construction (IIFC) based in Hong Kong. He is a member of ACI Committee 440 (FRP Reinforcement) and of ASTM Committees D-20 (Plastics) and D-30 (Composite Materials). He has received the Walter L. Huber Civil Engineering Research Prize, the Thomas Fitch Rowland Prize, and the Richard R. Torrens Award from ASCE for his work related to composites for construction.

Well-written informative book

I'm a mechanical engineering student who took a "Composites in Civil Engineering" course. The book was well-organized and seemed informative enough for the field. It has a decent/basic introduction to laminate-failure theories and the math/equations were easily followed. I docked a start because of a lack of answers/solutions for the questions at the ends of chapters.

About the Author

Matthew M. Mench is an Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Penn State University, where he is the Founding Director of the Fuel Cell Dynamics and Diagnostics Laboratory (FCDDL). He has over fifty publications in refereed journals and proceeding volumes, is a 2007 National Science Foundation Career Award recipient, and has also received an Outstanding Teaching Award from the Penn State Engineering Society. He has developed and taught an undergraduate- and graduate-level fuel cell course at Penn State since 2002.

Good read for fundamentals on fuel cells

One of the best books I came across in recent times... a good book to start learning fuel cell fundamentals...
Saw this book in Library shelf.. surprised to note that this was not checked out..most of the other books on fuel cells have been checked out.. may be the name of the book "fuel cell engines" might be confusing as to what this one may be about....

A Must read for both the beginners & for those who want to have a quick update on fundamentals..

Not a single good thing to say about this book!

This slim volume is filled with unknown catchphrases and undecipherable gibbery lingo. It is clearly the book that get's handed out as an overvue to Coach U's class of the same title. It is in no way a "manual" to stand on it's own.

Most of the "Personal Development" sections are basic check list's regarding finances, physical environment, and emotional wellbeing (question's like, "Is your home neat and clean?" or, "Do you pay your bills on time?"). Some of the books inquiries could be helpful, but there is little, if any, supportive content.

On the back of the book, as described on Amazon, it say's: "Now, for the first time, Coach U, Inc., is making it's complete course materials available in book form." What they don't say is how unusable the materials are without the course.

If you are looking to clean up your own life, or get in touch with your personal preferences about life as you head into a coaching practice, read The Portable Coach by Thomas Leonard. It asks the same great questions, but with support and humor to back you up.

Good ONLY If You're A Coach U Student or Working With a Trained Coach U Coach

This book is a texbook/workbook to be used WHILE taking the Personal Foundation course through Coach U or with a Coach U trained Life Coach. What the other reviewer said is absolutely true: if you don't use the book in either of those circumstances, it won't make sense and ABSOLUTELY won't be worth the $90 pricetag.

That said, using this workbook with a Coach U coach or through Coach U's offerings of this class, the program CAN significantly change your life (it's an incredible program--I've taken it more than once & use it with my clients, who love it). But if you're planning on doing independent personal development work by yourself, steer clear of this book! Purchasing it will probably make you as annoyed as the previous reviewer.

The reason I gave it a 4 instead of a 5 is that I think the $90 pricetag is REALLY too high. I own it, and I would buy more for my own personal use, but for $90, you can bet, I'm doing my exercises on a separate sheet of paper so I can reuse the book I have.

The information inside is meant to be read before classes and then discussed in more depth with instructors. If you're not a student at CoachU, you'll be lost with this book. If you're enrolling as a student there, it's a must-have.
