About the Author
Chunlong (Carl) Zhang, PhD, is an Associate Professor of Environmental Science and Environmental Chemistry at the University of Houston-Clear Lake. He has over two decades of experience in academia, industry, and consulting. Dr. Zhang has firsthand, practical knowledge of environmental sampling and analysis from work in the field and in the lab. He is the author or coauthor of numerous articles and reports on contaminant fate/transport, environmental remediation, and environmental assessment.

About the Author
BARBARA SEULING is the author and illustrator of more than sixty books for children, including the popular chapter book Oh No, It's Robert and its sequels, as well as picture books including Winter Lullaby, illustrated by Greg Newbold, and Whose House?, illustrated by Kay Chorao. She worked for nine years as a children's book editor for major publishing houses. Seuling is also the director of The Manuscript Workshop in Vermont.

A good resource

This book is divided into five parts. Each part is designed to help you in progressing towards the publishing of a book/play/poem/story for children. This is not a quick process. The key ingredient to this book being successful is that the book shows you what is involved.
In the first section of the book, Seuling discusses the world of children's books. This will give you an idea of the history of children's books and help you become familiar with the lingo.
In the second and third sections (Developing Your Ideas and Writing Your Book, respectively), she talks about some of the pitfalls (she calls sabotage) and talks about what is required for different kinds of books (for instance, what is needed for an Easy Reader versus a Chapter Book). To help you, the author includes the titles of books that best exemplify the kind of book she is discussing. Now, you can check out the book and see the example for yourself.
In the fourth and fifth sections (Selling Your Book and A Publisher in Your Future), she explains how the publishing field works. With this information in hand, you can make your submission more professional and increase your chances of getting a contract.
For each chapter in the book, she summarizes the key points and gives you "assignments" which will help you internalize the material and become an expert. The only problem with the assignments is that there is no right or wrong answer. You will need to assume that you are doing it correctly. If you follow the assignments, however, you will learn a lot.
Most importantly, Seuling has appendices that list a wealth of information on helping you become a successful writer for children. If nothing else, the book is worth it for those lists (things like marketing information, editorial services, references, and reviews of children's books). I would recommend this book for anyone thinking of writing for children.

A different approach to service management

This book embodies the Scandanvian school of thought in service management, both of which bring a fresh perspective on many issues (aside from the American viewpoint). The book takes you beyond the traditional view of services that emerged from marketing and operations books (whose primary subject was the manufacturing and consumer goods industry with services being an exception than the rule) to a bona fide service-oriented perspective on everything from the definition of services, service quality (beyond the traditional SERVQUAL Quality Gap Model), productivity in services, and "Return on Service" (measuring value for the customer), and the service production function. One way I measure the value of a book is the amount of highlighter ink I leave behind on the pages (or strips of yellow sticky paper). I highlight text only when it provides additional insight or learning. My used copy of this book has quite a bit of highlighting on it so it isn't going to fetch a good resale price here on Amazon.com.

Academicly solid as well as practical!

Surprised that there is no other review on this book. I bought it when the 2nd edtion was just in out while doing a masters degree in business administration. It helped me to do an assignment on market focussed management. It goes much further than many standard "hype type" of textbooks on CRM. It makes customer focus operational but still bases it on solid acadamic knowledge.
No doubt that this book will be of value just as long as the first edition!

CD = worthless

Good book. If you want to buy it used don't worry about getting the cd with it. It is meant for windows 95 or 98. Pretty worthless. You would think that a 2005 edition of the book would be a little more updated!

Best way to buy this book if it is required for your Chem E class

This package contains the workbook, the textbook, and a CD-ROM to help you with this class. Since this book is out of print, this truly is the best way to obtain it. The workbook helps you work problems step-by-step (they're actual problems from the previous version of the textbook) and the CD shows you what individual pieces of machinery are and their functions. One caveat: I can't get the CD to run on my Windows 8 machine, so I use a different unit to view it. Real chemical engineers use this text as a reference for their whole careers. Keep it; it is very all-encompassing!

Step by Step Learning & to the Point with REAL Information

The author gives you excellent detailed information along with lots of resource links, not to mention his email & phone info. He actually does answer email questions quick. His book is an excellent value because it's all about "how to" without any fluff, missing details, long winded stories or get rich quick schemes. I've read many real estate books & this is probably one if not the best & most informative on a new strategy that the average person can use.

Awesome Book!!

This is a straight forward no non-sense book. I have read so many books by people who seem like their more interested in motivating you too their $5,000 real estate seminar than to give you the information you need to make it in real estate. I have read two of Mr. Lucier's books one on pre-foreclosures, and the other on real estate options which I have highly recommended to people that I've been discussing real estate with. If you are sick and tired of wasting your hard earned money on books that just pump you up, but give you no substance then buy this book and find out of if you really have what it takes to invest in real estate options. Also I e-mailed Mr. Lucier some questions I had, and he e-mailed me back - with well thought out responses - 9 hours later! Now that's what I call customer service and someone who stands behind his work. Thanks again!

Experience shows through

I am a former real estate broker (6 years in California during the crazy years of 1977 through 1983) and this book by Thomas Lucier is one of the better I have read over the years. It gives much practical real world information and gives the novice investor and experienced investor a tool to improve their chances of success in the options and lease options world of investing in real estate.

It is a seminar in a book. I highly recommend it for others.
