Review
"…the editors are very fair in their discussion of what empirical research is. They also nicely sum up the strengths of both quantitative and qualitative research methods in an even-handed manner. This section of the book can, and should be a primer for every social work research student." (PsycCRITIQUES; 9/12/07)

Excellent book-Poor binding!
By Heather LW
This book is great for graduate students in social work or other mental health-related fields. It is a desk reference for common DSM disorders and evidence-based assessments/interventions. Easy to use and navigate. Chapters are based on individual disorders. I just received my master's degree. However I intend to keep this book as a professional.

Please note: The binding of this book is poor. In some sections, it is very evident that the pages are not securely attached. I attempted to exchange the item. Amazon promptly shipped me another one (thanks Amazon!). Unfortunately, the second book also had problems. Please scan through your book to check binding quality.

Comprehensive and covers all mental health conditions
By Caroline Mann-Smith
This book is an excellent reference and guide for any mental health clinician about what research has shown are the effective methods to use for treating/intervening across all mental health conditions. My only criticism is please update it and write a new edition for 2012.

Missing updated information
By RedRanger
This is a great basic text to cover mental health issues often seen in social work practice. That said, it is completely lacking any discussion of trauma and trauma-related disorders. This is a big hole in what is otherwise a helpful guide for social workers.
